On May 14, 2015, we held Cypress Celebrates: our annual spring benefit at the Brooklyn Brewery. Over 200 people joined us, and thanks to the generosity of so many supporters, sponsors and volunteers like you, we raised more than $60,000!
At the event, Melissa Kissoon shared her journey from high school student at the Franklin K. Lane campus to college student today. She described how before CHLDC began offering college counseling, there were few resources to help students apply to college. Now we help over 300 students get into college each year. Melissa also shared that “just having staff tell us they were proud of us makes such a big difference to me as a 17-year-old.”
It’s that kind of investment and support that helped Melissa get into college and develop as a leader. Today she is giving back to her community as a College Persistence Coach, counseling her peers to help them succeed in college.
The funds we raised at Cypress Celebrates enable us to continue to support people like Melissa develop a brighter future. Every day, we help community members to find affordable apartments, get better jobs, or learn new skills in an afterschool program.
Thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate the wonderful work happening in Cypress Hills — and for helping us build a community that’s stronger, healthier, and greener than ever.
Thank you to our generous sponsors of Cypress Celebrates
