The Cypress Hill Local Development Corporation is monitoring all alerts from public health agencies and the government and we want to assure everyone that we are doing everything possible to keep participants, staff, our tenants and our community safe. We want to provide the community with the latest updates on our services during this public health crisis and connect residents and small businesses with the information and resources they will need to weather the Coronavirus pandemic.

Youth Services & College Success Programs

  • The Beacon Family Place is open for intake for families with children 17 and under seeking counseling and support. The program is providing primarily telehealth services at the current time. To request services or make a referral, please email patriciac@cypresshills.org and maxh@cypresshills.org.

  • College STEPS/Persistence Program is open to anyone in need of support or assistance during their college career!

  • Student Success Centers at Franklin K. Lane Campus and Thomas Jefferson Campus and the Community Schools program at the Lane campus have transitioned to remote work. College Counselors are in touch with all high school seniors to help them evaluate their college acceptances and ensure financial aid and college enrollment. We will be reaching out to all juniors to work on their college lists and essays.

  • College Persistence Office will conduct conference calls, video chats and webinars for college students supporting them as they transition to digital learning.

  • After School:

    • Our organization is hosting after-school programs at many local public schools. We will also be hosting remote after-school services through Google Classroom for Grades K-8. Please see below for further registration options about registering for one of our programs. If you have any feedback or questions, please feel free to reach out to any of our directors.

Career and Education Services

  • TE@CH CDL training for young adults is going online. We will be taking new participants every wee

  • Careers that Care, scholarships are available for Kingsborough Community College's Summer Certified Nurse Assistant Program.  Contact Jennifer Daniel at 347-372-9257 to add your name to the list for next cycle.

  • Building ENY is offering OSHA 30 and access to construction jobs in our neighborhood. Call Catherine at  929-333-5825 if you live in the neighborhood and are 18-30 years old.

  • Cypress Hills Business Partners - we are available to help small businesses resolve problems, weather this storm and apply for emergency benefits. Please call (929) 333-5825 for assistance.

  • CHAMPION Network is taking new applicants to get an academic tune up, introductory credentials and bridge into advanced training in the track of your choice. Call Eric 347-871-1616

Community Development
  • We are always available to the tenants living in our affordable housing developments. We are working with our property managers to ensure that the cleaning and disinfecting of our buildings has been increased and that we can help with emergency needs. We will be providing additional supports for our senior housing building and elderly residing in our other properties.

  • Look for on-line Charlas and cooking demonstrations to be posted on our website.

  • SNAP Enrollment & Emergency Food Resources

    • We can still help you apply for SNAP (food stamps) to purchase food for your family and receive info to be connected to emergency food. Call (732) 860-8589 or email healthy@cypresshills.org. We can help over the phone or via video such as Zoom or Google Hangouts. No in person visit is needed.

 

  • Community Land Trusts

    • Our East New York Community Land Trust Initiative work is moving forward through phone conferences and other virtual platforms. If you are interested in getting involved, please email hannaha@cypresshills.org or call (929) 279-3541.

Housing Counseling
  • All housing counseling will take place via phone, text, and email. We will contact everyone that we are currently working with to set up a time for you to drop off any documents that may be pending on your case.

  • If you are facing a housing problem - like foreclosure or lack of services in your building - do not hesitate to contact us and we will provide advice, advocate for you, arrange for legal representation, etc.

  • There is a moratorium on evictions in New York City.

Community Organizing
  • Now is the time to influence those in power to implement new laws and provide the resources that our community needs to stop displacement and respond to this public health crisis.

  • With so many of us forced to be home - we can advocate for affordable and sustainable housing and jobs/ economic stimulus for our community.

We have set up a Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation centralized phone number to field all inquiries during the crisis - call 1.833.4CYPRES to get in touch with any of our programs and we will get you connected to the staff member that can handle your inquiry.

  • We will continue to update social media and websites as things change. We will also be circulating information on local food pantries and other emergency services.

  • Again, I want to thank you for your patience during this time as we do our best to deal with this unprecedented situation. Special thanks to the maintenance and facilities team who have been cleaning and disinfecting our offices and buildings. We hope that we can resume normal operations soon. We know many in the community rely on our vital programs.
