What’s The Threat?
Cypress Hills and East New York are facing the threat of perilous federal budget cuts supporting important community services. Programs in jeopardy include early childhood education, early college awareness at the Franklin K. Lane campus, the Community Learning Center at IS 171, foreclosure prevention counseling, tenant counseling, job placement and training and the AmeriCorps program. In total, 1,434 Cypress Hills and East New York residents would lose essential support services and our organization, along with the Cypress Hills Child Care Corporation, would lose $2,389,913 in budget cuts.
On Wednesday, May 10th, come to an important town hall meeting at IS 171 (528 Ridgewood Avenue between Lincoln and Nichols) at 6 p.m. Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez and State Senator Martin Malavé Dilan will be in attendance to meet with community members and hear directly from you and your neighbors about the importance of the services that this federal funding supports.
Community turnout is of high importance so please try to find the time to attend this meeting!
Together, we will rise up, resist and triumph!
