PROGRAMS

Supporting Safer, Healthier & More Sustainable Homes

Through our Small Homes Preservation initiatives, CHLDC helps homeowners improve the safety, accessibility, and energy efficiency of their homes while supporting long-term housing stability throughout East New York and surrounding neighborhoods.

ENERGYFIT

EnergyFit is a free program that helps small homeowners seal and weatherize their homes, install energy efficiency measures, upgrade fossil fuel appliances to electric, and make critical repairs and improvements valued between $25,000 and $30,000. So they can cut down on energy use, breathe cleaner air, and keep their home comfortable all year round.

ACCESS TO HOME

Accessibility improvements and health and safety renovations that help residents remain safely in their homes.

BASEMENT APARTMENT CONVERSION PILOT PROGRAM (BACPP)

CHLDC’s Basement Apartment Conversion Pilot Program is no longer active. However, the pilot played a critical role in identifying the major regulatory and financial barriers facing homeowners seeking to legalize basement apartments, and helped shape recent basement apartment policy reforms in New York City and State.

For those interested in learning more about the pilot’s findings, lessons learned, and recommendations for creating pathways to basement apartment legalizations citywide, we encourage you to review the final report produced by Citizens Housing and Planning Council.
