At Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, Youth + Family Services is one of the largest people-facing parts of our organization, reaching more than 2,800 young people every day across Cypress Hills, East New York, City Line, and surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods. From afterschool and summer programs to family support, community centers, and high school transition guidance, we help children, teens, and families grow, connect, and succeed.

At Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation, we know a child’s success starts at home, which is why we support families alongside students. Through workshops, events, and ongoing engagement, we help parents stay connected to their child’s education, build confidence supporting learning at home, and access resources that strengthen their household. Our team provides culturally responsive, multilingual support and connects families to trusted community partners, making sure every family feels informed, supported, and empowered.

AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS
Because The School Day Doesn’t End at 3 PM
Our after school programs are a true extension of the school day, created in partnership with school principals and educators to support each school community’s goals while giving students a safe, engaging place to learn and grow after class. Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation proudly partners with 14 schools across District 19 to provide no-cost programs for families throughout Cypress Hills and East New York. Most programs operate Monday through Friday for up to three hours each day, with select sites offering additional schedules and full-day programming during school holidays.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SUCCESS CENTER (MSSSC)
Helping Middle School Students Choose the Right High School
The Middle School Student Success Center (MSSSC), created by Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation in 2013, was the first program of its kind in New York City. Designed to help students and families navigate the high school admissions process with confidence, the MSSSC supports middle school students at IS 171 and Highland Park Community School as they plan for future academic and career success.
Through personalized guidance and youth-centered support, students gain the tools they need to make informed choices and apply to schools that match their interests and goals.

SUMMER PROGRAMS
Summer That Keeps Kids Learning and Exploring
Through the citywide Summer Rising Program, Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation partners with the NYC Department of Education and Department of Youth & Community Development to keep young people learning, active, and supported all summer long. Students spend mornings engaged in academic learning with teachers and afternoons participating in enrichment programs that make summer fun, meaningful, and memorable.
Summer Rising is designed to promote growth, discovery, and connection while supporting working families with full-day programming. Sessions typically run 6 to 7 weeks, with registration managed through the NYC MySchools portal each year.

For generations, families in East New York and Cypress Hills have trusted Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation and United Community Centers to provide safe, nurturing, and affordable early childhood education. Our Early Learning Center helps young children build confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning through hands-on S.T.E.A.M. activities, creative play, literacy development, outdoor exploration, and social-emotional learning in a welcoming, community-centered environment.

Free and reduced-cost childcare opportunities for qualifying families
We understand that applying for childcare and subsidy programs can feel overwhelming, which is why our team works directly with families to help guide them through enrollment, eligibility requirements, vouchers, and free or reduced-cost childcare options.
