The Cypress Hill Local Development Corporation is monitoring all alerts from public health agencies and the government and we want to assure everyone that we are doing everything possible to keep participants, staff, our tenants and our community safe. We want to provide the community with the latest updates on our services during this public health crisis and connect residents and small businesses with the information and resources they will need to weather the Coronavirus pandemic.

As of Monday, we have started to scale back in-person/face to face services. As of next week, we hope to be providing only remote services to follow the Center for Disease Control's and State and City guidance on stopping the spread of the virus and to protect our young people and families.

Youth Services & College Success Programs

  • The Beacon Family Place is open for intake for families with children 17 and under seeking counseling and support. The program is providing primarily telehealth services at the current time. To request services or make a referral, please email patriciac@cypresshills.org and maxh@cypresshills.org.

  • When the Mayor closed public schools, all of our afterschool programs at PS 89, PS 007, PS 65, P.S. 214, PS 108, PS 345, PS 677, IS 171, JHS 218, and Liberty Avenue Middle School were forced to close.

  • Beacon School-Based Community Centers at PS 214 and JHS 218 are now closed.

  • We hope in the weeks ahead to provide additional resources for parents re: virtual after-school lessons and activities.

  • Student Success Centers at Franklin K. Lane Campus and Thomas Jefferson Campus and the Community Schools program at the Lane campus have transitioned to remote work this week. College Counselors will be in touch with all high school seniors to help them evaluate their college acceptances and ensure financial aid and college enrollment. We will be reaching out to all juniors to work on their college lists and essays.

  • College Persistence Office will conduct conference calls, video chats and webinars for college students supporting them as they transition to digital learning.

  • Community Schools staff will be conducting case management and counseling remotely and helping students transition to digital learning.

  • There is a moratorium on evictions in New York City.

Community Organizing

  • Now is the time to influence those in power to implement new laws and provide the resources that our community needs to stop displacement and respond to this public health crisis.

  • With so many of us forced to be home - we can advocate for affordable and sustainable housing and jobs/ economic stimulus for our community. -Let's complete the Census and be engaged in planning for now and when we pass this. We'll be sending more information on both in the weeks ahead.

We have set up a Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation centralized phone number to field all inquiries during the crisis - call 1.833.4CYPRES to get in touch with any of our programs and we will get you connected to the staff member that can handle your inquiry.

  • We will continue to update social media and websites as things change. We will also be circulating information on local food pantries and other emergency services.

  •

  • Again, I want to thank you for your patience during this time as we do our best to deal with this unprecedented situation. Special thanks to the maintenance and facilities team who have been cleaning and disinfecting our offices and buildings. We hope that we can resume normal operations soon. We know many in the community rely on our vital programs.
