We are thrilled to announce that CHLDC has received an unprecedented $8 million unrestricted gift from renowned philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. This incredible one time donation is an investment in the future of our hard-working, community based organization and in the East New York neighborhood. It is also a powerful acknowledgment of the impactful work of the organization in poverty fighting, workforce development, youth and family services, college access and persistence, housing advocacy and affordable housing preservation/development, urban agriculture, public health and community organizing. It is a testament to the tireless dedication of our staff, volunteers, and community partners. We are grateful for this amazing opportunity to sustain and strengthen our programs and services, ensuring that we continue to empower residents and uplift our community for generations to come.
At CHLDC, our mission is to build a strong, equitable East New York, where youth and adults achieve educational and economic success, secure and preserve affordable housing, and develop leadership skills to transform their lives and community. Our mission has always been about making a difference—one that reaches beyond our immediate surroundings and inspires change far and wide. This recognition reinforces that our efforts are seen, valued, and celebrated by others who believe in the potential of our work. Every day, we strive to create lasting change, foster resilience, and provide opportunities for those we serve. This gift is a validation of our efforts and our unwavering commitment to making a difference in East New York.
We are incredibly grateful for this vote of confidence and the trust placed in our organization. This gift allows us to ensure the financial future of our organization, invest in our staff and facilities, deepen our commitment to the community, expand our reach, and further the innovative programs we have run for four decades.
This milestone gift is a shared achievement of our board, staff, volunteers, and supporters. Together, we are shaping a brighter future and this gift fuels our ability to continue creating meaningful change in East New York and meet the challenges ahead in the next few years.
Thank you for being part of this journey with us and thank you, MacKenzie Scott!
